GLOSSARY
Apparent Authority
Apparent authority is authority that a third party reasonably believes a person has because of the organization’s words, conduct, position, or other manifestations.
Why it matters
An organization can face obligations even when an individual exceeded internal limits if the organization created a reasonable appearance of authority. Clear titles, delegations, approval rules, contracting processes, and communications help reduce that risk.
