    GLOSSARY

    Office Action

A trademark Office Action is a written notice from a USPTO examining attorney identifying legal or procedural issues that must be addressed before an application can proceed.

    Why it matters

The response deadline and strategy matter. Some Office Actions raise technical requirements; others involve substantive refusals such as likelihood of confusion or descriptiveness. The response should address the actual legal issue and preserve the applicant’s position.
