    Service-Level Agreement

A service-level agreement, or SLA, defines measurable service commitments, how performance is calculated, and what remedy applies if a commitment is missed.

    Why it matters

An SLA should identify the metric, measurement period, exclusions, reporting method, claim process, and remedy. A service level that cannot be measured or that ignores customer dependencies can create risk without improving service delivery.
